I have a Profilux 3 (not 3.1) along with three PowerBar 6Ds, associated probes (temp, pH, ROX, platinum salinity) and optical sensors.

Are all these accessories compatible with the 4, and if not, which aren't?

Regarding the PowerBars, are there any significant differences between the newer 5.1 and the older 6Ds that would warrant replacing my 6Ds?

The old 6 come with two different communication solution. Powerbar 6 D comes with the old bus connected to either port S1-4 or S5-8. The cable has 6 threads - connection RJ 12. Powerbar 6 D PAB comes with the PAB bus and use an eight threads twinned cable - contact RJ 45 (a normal ethernet cable) Between the 6 D PAB and 5:1 - its no differences but the 6 D is a little bit more complicate if you want to change initial set up for each outlet. Otherwise - both works very well - and you can combinate them. I use 2 pcs of 6D (the old bus) and one 5:1 - nema problema. If you have the oldest 6 D (without the PAB bus) you can´t see any amperage in GCC.

One of the best things with GHL (IMO) is that they put a lot of work in order to make the new equipment backward compatible - however The PAB bus does not exist in versions earlier than P3 (as I remember) but all equipment working for P2 will work for P4 too. You need not to buy new things if you upgrade the brain (the computer)

Sincerely Lasse

Thanks for all the info!

I've had my P3 and accessories in storage, brand new, for many, many years as I had to postpone my tank build. As I reenter this hobby, I will be starting smaller with a JBJ 45 build that will use the P3, and someday when I get my "big" tank built, I'll put a P4 (or P5 if that's what's out at that time) on that.

A follow up question: can the Profilux 4 use the PLM-LAN (the newest one available through GHL and its distributors)?

The reason I ask is that a Google search came up with some answers that suggests the Ethernet LAN expansion card (as least, the pre-Profilux 4 version) is not compatible with the 4.

I want a hard-wired LAN connection due to the potential for unstable wireless connectivity, as well as to reduce to wireless overhead and security concerns.

Try reaching out to GHL North America directly at
[email protected]

Hopefully they can answer your questions promptly (If you're still needing help). I have to say the North America support is much better than it used to be.
