Hello. I have a CO2 scrubber and want to save on media. Also the PH is getting higher and higher close to 8.4 now. So figure if I can have my apex turn off the skimmer when the ph is a certain level this could solve both. Im trying to find where to put this code in if it would work. Do I add a virtual outlet? I have the Fusion with Trident. Thanks appreciate all the help in advance.

Set OFF
Fallback OFF
If pH < 8.3 Then ON
If pH > 8.3 Then OFF

Hello @Scallopking. You would place that code in the outlet that turns off and on your skimmer if you would like to shut the skimmer off when the PH gets a bit too high. I would recommend that you set the off to 8.4 though as keeping both at 8.3 does not really give you much space and may result in the skimmer pump wearing out sooner than later.

I have a CO2 scrubber on my dual frag system and have it plumbed into as a recirculating loop for my skimmer. I use an electronic valve that opens to take fish room air into the skimmer when the PH gets too high. It helps keep the PH stable and also cuts down on wasting media. I also use a skim-mate locker so that I don't have to worry about possibly getting a wet media slurry dumped into my tank by some freak accident.

your setup @LiveWire sounds awesome. What I’d like to end up doing but man I’m not sure how to accomplish it. Maybe I can pick your brain and see your setup.

Here’s my skimmer output screen shot. How does this code go in? I can’t figure this out and I bet it’s really simple too.

good tip, I will setup that way. Thx!

It is easy once you know how to do it. I'm still working with the classic Apex as it is still working and for the money I would spend on a new one I can get some other things needed for the fish room although one day I will upgrade. You have to setup the outlet in advanced mode and then paste or write the code in that area. This is a picture of my code.

And below you can see that my PH at night is about 8.2 and throughout the day it will get up to 8.34 or so. It has gotten to 8.4 in the past and I am fine with that. If it starts getting over 8.45 then I start to worry about it.

This is my frag setup. The Dual system is up and running and the Quad system is in the works. It will start cycling on Monday when my supplies come in.

The 6.jpg

The valve is on top of the skimmer cup and if it were to fall off will not fall into the water as the line is not long enough.

Valve.jpg

I have a basic CO2 reactor filled with media that I have to change about every 3-4 weeks. All of these wires at one time were nice and neat until I had to replace the power head in one of the systems and I just have not gotten around to cleaning it up again.

CO2.jpg

You can see how the reactor and valve are plumbed in so it basically takes the air in the skimmer and recirculates it back through the media over and over.

And the Skim just drains into a locker which makes sure that if for some reason the skimmer would overflow it will fill up the locker. I will be installing a float on the top of the locker to shut off the skimmer if it gets full for some reason. I have water sensors on the floor so if it started to overflow they would trip and shut the system down sending me an email at work as well as a phone notification. The float I install on the top will do the same thing once I install it.

If you need some more help getting the code installed into your apex just let me know and you can give me a call and I can walk you through it.

Thank you for taking time to get some pics. That’s worth a 1000 words. I got the code installed, it was easy once you know where, thanks for pointing me too the advanced selection. What valve is that and where did you get it? So you didn’t need to use your silencer, I still have to use mine, would not foam without it. It’s a simplicity 320 skimmer.

I am always happy to help out! I just wish the pictures would have come out better. It is a Bacoeng 1/2" DN15 NC 110V valve. You can get it on Amazon at the link below. And no once you set up like this you wont need a silencer anymore.

Thanks again. Appreciate the link. I’ve been looking over your setup and finally think I figured it out. . So when the valve opens it is taking in fish room cabinet air from the other side of the valve which gets mixed in with the recirculated skimmer air? And then you had to use rigid tubing with the John guest attachments throughout? What did you use if you don’t mind to connect the tubing to the valve?

Anytime @Scallopking. Yes when the valve opens its pulling in air from the room which will in turn bring the PH down. I did indeed use John Guest fittings and poly tubing. I connected the tubing to the valve with a 3/8" John Guest Fitting X a 1/2" NPTF fitting. You can use the same fitting on the canister as well. You can pick them up at your local home store.
