My tank has been set up for a month now. I had what a few ppl called a diatom bloom and others a brown algae out break. Two weeks ago I bought the orbit marine led by current plugged it in and hit the auto timer on it according to the directions it was suitable for most tanks. Just my luck i strongly feel that it was the root of my problem. Today I left the lights off and just now got home and turned them on to take a gander. It looks so much better then last night. The auto setting was 8-4 80% max intensity w the blue and then 830-3 80% max intensity on the white side. Both have a sunrise/sunset fade that last 30 minutes. My question is what would or do the more experienced reefers suggest on the intensity and length of time the lights should be on for? Thank you in advance.

38 gallon 32 lbs of live rock. 2 bags of live sand (forgot the size). I don't have my lil black book of water test w me but as of Friday night they were all good. As far as stock goes I have 11 crabs 2 clowns 2 hi fin banded gobies and a candy pistol shrimp. I have some type of zoas coming back to life. I bought the rock from the lfs, they said they probably won't live. They have come a long way. They are blooming out more n more everyday and I can see a bright green dot in the center of them. I did have some aiptsia trying to grow in a few different spots but ibhave knocked them back. There is a random sponge taking form. Also have three rocks w red alges growing. Temp is 78. My last water change was Friday night. Water flow is ab 725.

programmable lights are more for reef tanks. zoas will adjust to any light. the fish don't care. turn the intensity down. how old it the tank? diotoms are part of a tanks maturing. we all go thru it. I have a softie tank with a couple of lps and my whites are at 50% and blues at 70%.

It's been up for a month now. I am wanting to add more corals but I want to have everything spot on or at least as close as possible before I do. That way I don't mess them up or throw them into shock by not having it right.

what kind of corals? sps need much more light than softies. for most coral I think It's best to lower the intensity for a while, then increase a little at a time. see how they are doing. where your placing the coral is also important.

They are zoas. Mid level in the tank and then a little below that. They still look better then when i purchased the live rock even getting their color back.
