Does a prop tank need time to cycle? I currently have mine up and running and am wondering since it is a self contained system running with just water if it is going to cycle at all? Please let me know. Thanks.

i would say yes. even tho it may not be a very large, but there will eventually be one anyway. Especially once you increase the bio load with frags.

Im assuming theres not going to be any LR/LS or any other natural "filtration"?

You could always go buy a little HOB filter and run it on your DT sump to build SOME bacteria up on the media sponge. Leave it on there for a week or so and then transfer it to your prop tank. Thats what i have done in the past. Just my .02

Yes I have built a media rack where the water is forced through several differnt levels of filter floss and carbon. I will be adding chemi-pure once corals have been added. I also plan on adding a smaller 6-line Wrasse within the month for its ability to remove any and all pests if I encounter them at anytime.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on the cycle of a frag tank? It has been running for about 10 days. I threw in a frag to see how it does... so far it is doing well. But I am not sure as to how long it will take for the bacteria to get kickin'.

yes. absolutely.

take the frag back out while you do this.

pick up some pure white ammonia in the cleaning isle of our grocery store and dose a capful the first day. this should peg ammonia off your test kit. watch for it to come down and when it reaches zero, start adding a few drops (no more!) every day. monitor nitrite and when it is zero you are good to go.

This thread confused me. Are you talking about running a frag tank with no LR or LS, but adding a fish and running media by itself?
