So I finally got a Triton test for my propagation tank and I was pretty surprised - high levels of Sn, Li, Br, V, Si and Al. I use IO salt, and do ~20% water change per month, plus water sent with corals. I'm kind of surprised at the high Mg levels as well, since IO is pretty low on Mg, and I don't supplement any. It is in a garage, where a car is parked.

The surprising part is that my display doesn't have high levels of any of those elements, even though it uses the same salt. I have rigid PVC in both tanks, under three years old for both. I did have a return pump die recently, and I replaced a cheapo pump with an Eheim Compact 5000. The tank has been up for about eight months now, and I've had some mediocre growth marred by some random STN. I've used a polyfilter on and off, but it doesn't change color - just gets brownish indicating organics.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! My full results are below. Thanks!

The magnesium is especially unexpected using IO. Not sure why it is high for you.

i don't think the aluminum is high enough to worry, but if you use aluminum media or phosphate binder, you might consider removing it.

I don't think we have a good understanding of tin (Sn) and where it is coming from, but quite a few people have elevated tin.

I wouldn't worry about the lithium or bromide. Both are probably from the salt.

Silicate might be from tap water Do you use tap water?

Thanks Randy. I don't use any aluminum based media at all, just GAC run passively.

My make up water is all RODI with 0 tds.

Do you think it's worth it to put the polyfilter back in?
