Can you help me get my dosing right for a low iodine test. My ATI ICP test came back with iodine at 0.016. I read ideal value is 0.06. I have a bottle with a dropper of Lugol's Iodine solution. Any guidance would be appreciated!

That's strong stuff! I was going to buy it till I found out how potent it is. I use aquaforest iodum at one drop a day and seems to be working well.

Iodine depletes rapidly.

I don't think I've ever seen a tank with 0.06ppm unless the measurement was taken within minutes of adding a supplement.

II'd not use Lugols for dosing in a reef tank, I used Potassium Iodide but saw no change in coral, so stopped.

Get a pulsing Xenia! They're a good indicator of low iodine. If they don't pulse add iodine and watch how quickly they start to Pulse after that. Lol crazy but it's true!

Interesting.

Does that mean that they are happy, or does it perhaps mean that they are irritated and showing displeasure?

I don’t personally believe that Lugols is the best way to go if you believe dosing iodine is something you’d like to try. It is reactive with organics and tissues, and is largely unnatural.

I’d recommend dosing iodide.

Someone needs to break the code so we can communicate with them!

Can you recommend or suggest a brand? I may have to submit another test, just in case it was a bad reading. I also had an extremely high level of Aluminum, no clear where that is coming from as my RODI water came back with none.

I use Seachem Iodide.
My ICP always comes back with high aluminum forever.
If it’s a problem, sure can’t see any effects over a decade.
I don’t fully trust ICP tests, but is interesting info.

There are many brands that are suitable, and since the doses are so low, high purity is not necessarily needed. ESV is generally a reliable supplement company, and you can get DIY recipes using sodium or potassium iodide.
