I really like the idea of plumbing a 10gallon macro display into my 90g mixed versus setting the refugium up in the sump can I hear some input on both sides to gain some knowledge before I experience it for myself?

I'm all for macro display tanks. They can look just as gorgeous as an acro-filled reef tank and provide a different kind of ecosystem. Check out @Tigahboy's macro tanks to see what I mean. They're cheap, and very easy to take care of.

Basically you get all the benefits of a refugium, plus another display tank!

Macro display tank can be a gorgeous theme tank. I use a mud/algae refugium for both nutrient export and nutrient recycling. I recall laying on my stomach with a lighted magnifying glass and watching the “little people” at work.
