protecting powerheads

how would you add protection to a reefwave 45? I mean so fish and inverts wont crawl in it and die or break the powerhead.

I don't personally. I've kept thousands of nems over the years without a powerhead issue. However, if you'd like there are many powerhead guards that can be bought aftermarket, I've seen some nice 3d printed ones on ebay.
