Protein Skimmer Advice

Hey,
I have a 45 Gal tank, running on a canister filter. My nitrates/nitrites have been 0, but I still have a little phosphate 0.25ppm with a lot of algae bloom. I was told I should get a HOB Protein skimmer.

My question is, should I get the HOB Protein skimmer now? Or wait out a few months maybe upto a year if I plan on getting a larger tank with a sump/Internal Protein skimmer?

I guess it would have to depend on your financials and whether or not you want to keep up on water changes and replacing your filter media in your canister filter.

PO4 of 0.25 ppm is high. Get it below 0.1 .
Skimmer is a good investment for nutrient export.

I would spend the funds on getting a sump going first.

If your going to for sure upscale I would wait and pick up some Chemi-Pure and feed a little less or Chemi-Pure with GFO mix. add it to your filter.
