Hello out there. So I feel stupid for posting this. I recently received a new protein skimmer (again thank you SS) and it’s running and running very well. But I seen when I feed my corals at night the skimmer goes nuts! Now it is with only certain food.
If I feed reef foods no problem. But is I feed phyto feast I get bubbles like crazy.

now he is my question and why I feel stupid is this normal and for years I have had that crappy of a skimmer?

Depends on the food and how it affect surface tension. Some foods I feed can make my skimmer go nuts like Larrys fish eggs and others shut it down.

Most things like Phyto and Coral food it tells you on the back to turn your skimmer off for at least an hour. Just FYI. Your skimmer will pull Phyto out.

I turn my skimmer off every time for about an hour!

Yeah i thats completely normal.

I actually turn off the return pump and just leave the flow on for a few hours so the coral food has time to be absorbed by coral. Any food that end up in your sump and skimmer is wasted nutrient.
