Protein Skimmer Crap

Been looking for a protein skimmer for a 50 gallon aquarium.Seems like everything I research is a piece of crap.With all this modern day technology no one seems to be able to make a simple device like a protein skimmer.After researching so many all I read is this failed and that one stopped working.All I currently need is a simple hang on back skimmer that wont crap out.Maybe I just wont use one on my tank.Even some of the "top brands" have bad reviews.I think the makers of these products make them to fail! Its enough this hobby sucks the money out of your account.Back in the old days they made stuff with quality.You cant buy a fridge,dishwasher or other appliance that craps out on you in a couple of years.I guess maybe I should try to make my own....lol

I had the same problem. Everything i researched ended up being crap for my 20 gallon. I spent 140 on a skimmer than crapped out within a week and eventually burned out 3 pumps.

I ended up just going old school and got a reef glass skimmer with an air pump. I haven't looked back.

I think it is too small for a 50 gallon though unless you ran 2-3 of them.
