Protein Skimmer Died

Hi all,

My protein skimmer pump died today. I have ordered a new one and I hope it will be here by Friday. On that note, is my tank doomed without it?

I wouldn’t think so if in doubt do a water change

Many tanks run without a slimmer at all. Being without one for a few days shouldn’t cause any issue at all. Like @flyline said, a water change should take care of any nutrient build up due to the slimmer being offline.

I turn mine off on occasion to raise the nutrients. Not a problem.

Before replacing an entire unit.... replacement pumps are out there at a low cost and even at some times - Used

I don’t even use a skimmer nor a sump for my tank and it’s going great. You will be fine with just doing water changes.

my 60g cube made it 22 years without. Your tank will be fine for a few days/weeks/months without. You might have to increase the amount/frequency of water changes if it's more than a couple weeks, but I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

Agree with others, sometimes I turn my skimmer off for weeks at a time when trying to raise nutrients.
