Protein skimmer for biocube HELP!!!

It won't work for 1-3 weeks even if it is in perfect condition. Most skimmers have a break in period. Which is really a fancy way of saying they develop a slime coat over the plastic, and break down the oils on it.

How old is your tank. Is it new? Have you ordered another limewood airstone for the skimmer on amazon or someplace? You replace them every 2-3 months for optimal operation.

If you see bubbles it is working. Mine, takes up to 2 hours to start again after it has been off for a day or two. Even though it is already broken in. Just give it time. A way to speed up breakin is to put it in white distilled vinigar solution for an hour, without the airstone attached. Then clean it really well and put airstone back in and turn it on in your tank. Let it sit for a while and it should start skimming eventually.
did you use the coralife skimmer?

I would let it run
Eventually the air makes its way through the pores

The coralife biocube skimmer is very sensitive to water levels. I use the suction cups to attach it to the sump wall. I leave the air flow valve wide open and move the entire skimmer up and down till I get the proper position

Yep, I thought the skimmer that was designed for my tank was broken, so I tried coral-life and lee's. Until I figured out it wasn't broken, I just need a MUCH more powerful airpump to make it work. went from 20g whisper aqueon to 150 whisper aqueon. The skimmers I was able to return, but they wouldn't take back the limewood stones so now I use them in my current skimmer. Lee's wood stones are far superior IMO than coral life ones.

As for skimablility, coral life was WAY small for my 46 gallon tank. I could never get the Lee's to work properly, but the 150 pump I purchased for it is how I got my current skimmer to work.

Now I use the skimmer designed for my tank, and it is very effective. My entire 3inx4.5in chamber is filled with bubbles.

Coral life worked... it just wasn't designed for my tank. The tall chambers meant the tiny pump on it didn't circulate the water enough to pull much to the top of the 18 inch deep chamber it was located.

Thank you.
I did switch to the lees stones. I had the combo in my 29 JBJ cube and also as an experiment tried to get it to go in my DT sump.
Im assuming now that the stock air pump with the coralife skimmer is just way under powered.
My DIY skimmers had worked better and any aquaclear pulled out more than the coralife set up stock set up.
Pretty much ruined my 29 JBJ.
