Protein Skimmer help please :)

We are needing a protein skimmer and could really use some help deciding what to purchase!

We have a 120g with a 55g sump

We would like the skimmer to go in the sump, that’s basically all we know

You've got lots of choices: Deltec, Red Sea, Reef Octopus, Bubble Magus, Nyos, Maxspect, etc. It really depends on how much you want to spend.

Save yourself a ton of analysis paralysis because there are a billion brands, and just buy a Reef Octopus Classic S-202. They have been around forever and straight up work and last.

Skimmers usually have a rating for light / medium / and heavy bioload. Personably I like bubble magus. Inexpensive and I’ve never had issues

I've used a few over the years.... everything from old school lime wood airstones, to recirculating. I find the old school venturi(becket) skimmers to work the best.

With that said, I currently run a bubble magus curve elite line. Bubble magus just plain works, is on the low end of the price range, and with the addition of a sicce pump in the elite line, makes them perfect IMO.
