Protein Skimmer Help

I did my first major sand cleaning since my 125g fowlr was set up. Water values are great. But after starting to clean the sand my skimmer is acting crazy. Even with the gate valve turned all the way down the skimmer is still loading the cup with more bubbles than it can hold. It's overflowing back into the refugium. I'm using a reef octopus 150 INT. I've been thrilled with it so far. Any suggestions? Anybody dealt with similar issues? Thanks!

You can turn the skimmer off until the tank settles. Its foaming because of all the junk in the water column right now. You can only raise it up, and turn it all the way down in order to kind of get it to stop, but when it does settle, you'll have to adjust it again.
