I fit my skimmer in my sump....set it up with the airline to the pump for the skimmer. At first it made bubbles but over flowed all the way into the collection cup and foam running all over the place....help please!? Oh also made my tank full of micro bubbles now and looks sooooooo cloudy.

You'll have to decide rather you want a dry or wet skim. If you want dry, the water level should be towards the bottom of the neck. If you want wet, it should be towards the top of the neck. The micro bubbles will go away once it's broken in or you can put a sponge where it discharges to help it out a little

Outside of skimmer in sump is 2 1/2" when I turn it on the water fills all the way up and over flows collection cup.

Which skimmer did you get and we can help you more:)

A friend gave me a sky 731. It was to big for his tank and he knew I didn't have a skimmer. He never fully set up or ran it. But didn't come with no instructions and Google was NOT helpful lol

this might help?

Yea that's the one I watched haha. Awesome info. Im going to try and life it a little. I think it's to deep in the water.

Typically, there is an adjustment... the one I have is adjusted through the amount of air you take in through the pump. I wasn't able to find much on line about this skimmer.

Yea opened outlet full and had to lift the skimmer all the way to where the pump is at water level...bobman....that's exactly it. What is the adjustment?

I would need to see a picture of the whole skimmer not just what appears to be a pump. IS this skimmer new? IF not I would check a few things if you have the riser tube adjustment wide open and it still over flows then make sure you have the correct pump. Then make sure the gate valve on the riser tube as actually working. Are you adding any chemicals to the tank such as dechlorinator or prime or anything type of additive? From there I would have to see what you are working with as you are right google don't show a whole lot to work with

The adjustment is circled not the best pic but all I could grab off the web that should attach to a gate valve and restrict water from leaving the skimmer raising the water level inside the body of all the above is good I would remove the collection cup and let it run. Some skimmers will overflow no matter what you do till they break in. You also might have a lot in the tank to skim such as additives.
