Hey all,

I am having issues with my Bubble Magus Z7 skimmer. It’s been running for about a month in a tank that’s been up for about 2 months. I let it do it’s thing for about 2 week before I sat down to try and get this thing dialed in. I originally had it sitting on the bottom and it would overflow, so I raised it by 3 inches and it ran fine for about 24 hours and then it would be barely coming up the bubble section even at full close. So I then move it back down to the bottom and everything is great for 24 hours and then again it’s back to overflowing. I’ve been doing this cycle of moving it for 2 weeks now. I’ve tried messing with the water intake on this and I can’t get it dialed in. It changes after 24 hours and there seems to be no way to get it perfect where I’m not messing with it every few days. Any advice?

According to Bubble Magus, the ideal depth for this skimmer is 8 inches. Once you have eight inches, see what you get, playing with adjustment dial. Note that the final adjustments will most likely be a hair of a turn.

I’ve tried it at 8 inches multiple times and it’s wide open and the bubbles are screaming up to the cup. I just don’t understand how it can be fine for 24 hours at a certain level and then at that same level I can’t dial it in at all.

Try it at 7 inches.

I’ve tried 8 inches all the way to 5 in half inch increments. Anything above 7 it’s fine for 24 hours and then I can’t get enough water at full open so I drop it down and no matter what I drop it down to it’s fine for 24 hours and then starts overflowing.

I assume it's got plenty of dirt up the neck? I find that after I clean mine it takes time to break back in .

Also it's worth checking the pump is clear and the silencer is tight onto the airline..

I cleaned the neck. I’m wondering with the break in if I should just pull it out and give it a good clean to see if that helps.

Its worth a go mate.. it can be a pain in the butt..
I deep cleaned mine 2 weeks ago and it's still not right.. but it needs to be done once in a while...

Assure the muffler tube is not blocked at 7" is the happy medium.
