I have a kent marine skimmer rated for 120G tanks and it is working fine. however, since i have a 120G tank, i am wanting to go a little bigger..

Any recommendations for a decent/cost efficient skimmer? I don't really want to drop $300, $400 on this...

Thank you in advance!

I'm pretty much sold on the Reef Octopus brand. I believe the $300-$400 for the skimmer is small change compared to the total investment in the tank, and it is an important piece of equipment. And if you want energy efficient, look at the dc line. In my tanks, the skimmer is the single largest electricity user of any of the equipment, but I haven't run the MH lights yet.

I've got an Aquamaxx EM200 and love it! Its rated for up to 240 gallons and can be had just under $300. It's very well built and pulls skimmate like nobodys buisness! Plus...it's nice and compact for it's size as the pump (Sicce Syncra 3.0) is housed internally on the bottom. Oh...and it's DEAD SILENT!

+1 to Reef Octopus. I really like mine, specially if compared to the Coralife skimmer I used to have.
I read a few reviews about the aquaC and it seems legit too. Two great options imo

if you are into diy there are some cost effective options...
a pump with venturi...some 4'' or 6'' pvc pipe and fittings is all you really need
if you want to go this route and need help let me know

I have thought about the DIY aproach as well. I would have to go with a few venturi on this system but it may be cheaper than a brand new $800 reef octopus 5000. DIY may be a good way to go.

Bart (orthokardia) from Manchester, TN made one out of a tall fiberglass air tank. it was 4 feet tall. his was a Becket Style design but I seem to think he had issues with it.

I Have a used SRO3000XP-int that I LOVE. it does a good job. Look for a used one somewhere.
