Hey guys i have an in-sump eshopps psk-75. I just started my 55g tank up with an aqueon pro flex 3 sump on sunday. On Monday i turned it on and no mater how I adjusted the water height and the return pump for the skimmer it would overflow...is this because my tank water is so new? If so how long should I wait to turn it back on?

I have experience with these. That one likes less water height and consistent. Somewhere between 5.5-8". If you have not put it in at 6". Try that. Also, try leaving the water out adjustment wide open and adjust it closed slowly at that height of water in sump. You can make a temp stand for your skimmer out of cut egg crate/lighting diffuser stacked with a piece of acrylic on the top.
Getting the bubbles to the top of the skimmer with the cup off is the goal. Then everything else falls in place. The more in the middle of opened and close the outlet of water is the better so that you can adjust either way for bio load variances if necessary.
Initially running it without a cup will hurt nothing, until you get it dialed in.

Skimmer breaking in.
That's why I like the DC pumps a lot on a skimmer.
You can dial back and it still will break in your skimmer without the trouble.
How long is your tank running you said?

I shimmed up my skimmer with ziploc containers and found the level i needed to be at! When i get home from work ill make a more permanent skimmer stand out of egg crates and zip ties along with a float switch so my sump levels never fluctuate. Thanks for the help really appreciate it.
My tank has been running for about a week now. I added 40lbs of live rock from an established tank at my lfs, added about 40-50 lbs of live sand, added chaeto algae in my refugium, and added a gravity siphon diy auto top off system with a float valve. That should solve the water level fluctuation problem for my skimmer it all seems tonbe running smoothly now! Still gping to wait a week maybe two before i add a couple fish, and probably longer before i add coral

No diatom bloom yet, that is the next thing im waiting for. And i havent tested my system yet im picking up a reef master test kit within tue next couple days. Only have a dozen hermit crabs and one stomatella snail that went for a ride on the live rock i bought [emoji2] and theyre moving all over the place in my tank

Im guessing my tank is going through its ammonia spike and hasnt had a chance to turn into nitrites yet? And i only have hermit crabs in there so i can see why there is also no nitrates

Another update! Its been 11 days since my skimmer overflow...about a week after u originally posted this problem it was still overflowing and I was fruatrated to no end until i realized...MY FILTER SOCKS WERE COMPLETELY CLOGGED. I did zero cleaning the first 2 weeks of the tank running and all the clouded sand particles were in the sock! The emergency overflow from the filter sock stage to the fuge was making it sound like a waterfall under my tank and i had no idea why it started flowing like that. Whoops! Rookie move on my part..so i cleaned the socks in vinegar/hot water solution used my high pressure kitchen sink sprayer to flush all the vinegar out and let it dry. Put them back in and my sump is flowing quietly and smoothly and most importantly...my skimmer is working great now! My guess was that the crap in the socks were leaking into the sump flow making the skimmer go haywire? Lesson learned though.. now I will be getting a couple extra pairs and switching socks every 3 days
