Protein Skimmer Parts

Bought a Bubble Magus Hero 77 Skimmer for real cheap as is, took the chance.
Turned it on and it works flawlessly and it's pretty quite for a 2 pump system.

There were only 2 flaws I could find with it and was hoping to get your opinions on it.

1) It is missing the Bubble Diffuser Plate inside, is it necessary to operate properly, I know you can make one yourself, but even then is it necessary?
2) There is a line coming out of the collection cup that my other skimmer doesn't have, does that serve a important purpose? It is missing the end piece or cap of it, so its just the line, someone told me to just close it up and it'll work just fine. I have attached a picture of a different skimmer that shows that line.

the line is just a cup drain. you can plug it or run it to a container that will collect the skimmate.

as far as the bubble plate... i'm sure it improves efficiency, but i have no idea how much.

The line is just a drain to run to a larger reservoir if you wanted. I use mine as a drain to empty the cup

1.) Yes you need this part for it to operate properly.
2.) it is for draining your collection cup. Just keep it pointed up or tied in a knot until you want to drain the cup. You could also have it into a pop bottle!
