I just order me a aqua-c remora protein skimmer with maxi-jet 1200 pump
20-75 gallon

Just want to know would it be good for my 40 breeder reef tank that I'm starting

I have a fluval 406 Canister hookup to my 40 breeder with a Solarmax h.o.
Plus the skimmer when it comes.

Would this setup be okay for now

Okay so I'll have to clean it every week or two not monthly

That and make sure you change the carbon and what ever else you use every 2-4 weeks

Okay I see what u mean all my tanks have high nitrates **** I'm going to clean them tomorrow and put new carbon

Hope nothing happens to my fish till then.
