Protein skimmer splattering everywhere

Hi everyone! I got an air powered protein skimmer in the mail today. However, there's a problem...water is splattering out of a hole at the top and landing quite some distance from the tank. This will obviously cause problems in the long run, so...is there any way to avert this problem, or should I have gotten a different protein skimmer? Thanks

All skimmers will have a break in period. Also need to make sure you have the skimmer in the proper water level
