I have a 30 gallon half moon that's have been running for almost a year now, was wondering if a protein skimmer should be added in or does my once a month WC take care of it?

A protein skimmer should be a must if you have corals. Water changes are great, but they don't help as much as a skimmer. You are replacing vital nutrients with water changes, but a skimmer cleans all of the junk out of the water column. So unless you are changing 95% of the water every time, then a skimmer would help greatly.

Don't change 95% of the water, I was just saying :)

Ok,

I wouldn't go over the top with a super expensive one right off. I have the Coralife and you can either hang it on the back or put it in a sump. It works great and runs about 70 dollars for the version you would need.

Yeah we need more info on your tank. Also I would get a better skimmer first so if you upgrade you can use it on the bigger tank. You can be cheap or you can be good but you can't be both is one of the terms used for a skimmer. Get a good hang on or internal on because they are more future proof and run circles around cheapies!

Need way more info to be helpful?
Reef tank?
