I am making my own protien skimmer and was wondering can I use a clear muti purpose silicone? Will it harm my fish?

The "hardware" silicone that is safe for aquarium use is GE Silicone I. Also make sure you let it cure for 3....4....5....as many days as you can.

Please start a DIY thread on this.....I'm curious.

Ya for sure. Once I get all supplies so I can post pictures.

Silicone doesn't hold well to plastic and usually fails.
Weld-on adhesive is used for acrylic and would probably be a better choice.

And the weld on won't hurt the fish or anything?

Silicones are pretty tenacious. If you're actually using it as an adhesive, you might wish to try Momentive RTV 108.

Weld-on only "works" for acrylic (polyacrylonitrile). The OP is using water bottles....either PETE or HDPE or some PE.

Yes, it's used for acrylic and several other plastics as well. I don't know exactly what the op is using but I would suggest doing some research.

So this is the silicone I'm using
