Protein Skimmer

Hi all I am considering replacing my very old protein skimmer. I running a 55 gallon tank with a trigger 39 sump, witch added another 20 gallons of water. right now I have I think it is a Ero Reef skimmer it works but I have to adjust it a lot. I would like something that I can set and just clean, and maybe not to sensitive on water depth.

Water depth impacts all skimmers in some way. Fluctuating water depth effects 99% of all skimmers. The 1% that isn't impacted I don't know of anyone using them.

Euro Reef's are good classic skimmers. May need some cleaning as all skimmers will.

Thanks for the Reply, I bought this one well over 13 years ago maybe longer I was just thinking maybe I could find something that worked a little better

My Previous tank had a Bubble Magnus Curve5 (new build is using a curve7). skimmed like a champ, usually find them for around 180-200$

There has certainly been a lot of different little design changes over the years but in the end a bubble is a bubble and anything that will attach to that bubble will not care at all what the skimmer looks like just that it has enough time to take a ride. The rest are IMO ways to get people to keep buying new skimmers. I have fun doing it but I've found that there's a lot of marketing hype out there.

You can still find all kinds of replacement parts for that Euro Reef/ Reef Dynamics skimmer. May need to replace the pump or replace with like a sicce.

Maybe your right this one is very old I Will look into a pump tomorrow. Need to look at this one and see if I can see what's on it. This one ether slims to wet or not much at all but it's still running lol

Maybe even just a couple hours in some vinegar will do or a new prop assembly and bushings

OK I will soak my skimmer tomorrow and see how it does Saturday, Wish I could remember what size or modle number of this skimmer I know it's a Euro Reef back when I bout it it was rated as one of the best, and it's at least 13 years old and I thing maybe 15 to 17 years onl but I can't really remember

Do you happen to know or still able to read what pump you have? Otherwise you could measure the diameter and height of the skimmer and that could narrow down which model it is.

You could melt it down and make 5 new skimmers out of it LOL I had a Euro reef CS80 on a 55 gallon tank and it was the best skimmer I had, 24'' tall with a 5'' diameter body.

I love the old euro reef skimmers. I used to run a rs-250 on my 180 until I went with my current skimmer. And believe me, it was a tough decision to make to switch

I have an old Euro-Reef skimmer, but I forget what model it is now. It did a fine job on my old heavily stocked 75. Mine used a Sedra brand pump and the pump and impellers, volutes, etc are still available (almost 20 years later). Just as an example: Sedra Pumps & Parts

If anyone has an old euroreef / reef dynamics skimmer that they dont use any more or is broken let me know. I really want to rehabilitate one for my next tank.

Dang Thank you that's my pump but I am not sure if mine is the 9000n or the 15000 I will pull it back out in the morning to look

One thing to keep in mind is that you dont have to use a sedra pump. Reef Dymanics was in the process of switching to Sicce pumps, I would be looking in that direction.

If your current skimmer is submersible, put it in a bucket with the venturi off, run it in some white vinegar or a diluted muriatic acid solution. It should clean it right up!

They are currently running sicce pumps on their smaller skimmers and using ehiem on their larger ones
