I have narrowed my tank down to either the Red Sea Reefer XXL 750 or WaterBox 230.6 and am currently shopping for a protein skimmer that would be suitable for either. The specs of each are as follows:
Red Sea Reefer XXL 750:
Tank = 160 Gallons
Sump = 40 Gallons
Total System = 200 Gallons
Skimmer Chamber = 28" x 20"
Sump Water Height = 8.3" - 10.6"
Cabinet = (Could not find specs, but assume the same as WaterBox)
WaterBox 230.6:
Tank = 169 Gallons
Sump = 40.3 Gallons
Total System = 209.3 (Doesn't add up to 230 because they include the ATO in the number as well)
Skimmer Chamber = 15.4" x 19"
Sump Water Height = 9"
Cabinet = 72" x 26" x 36"
I have been looking at protein skimmers all day and cannot seem to find one under $449, (Skimz Monzter SM201 Internal Protein Skimmer) which would put it at the single most expensive piece of equipment on my list besides the tank itself and the Apex Controller. I just wanted to reach out to see what others would recommend, (or are currently using) for the two systems above.
I am attaching my list as well to see if I have covered everything or if anyone has anything I should add. This will be mainly for Soft Corals and maybe some beginner LPS for now. Hopefully in time as I get experience I would venture into harder corals and either add the equipment needed or build another system.
Thanks for any advice!
Marco
