Protein skimmer

Hi I am new to salwater coming from fresh water and was told if I can do fresh water I can do saltwater. I have a external protein skimmer i just added water today and am cycling the tank i need to figure out how to work this skimmer. If someone can please help me to get started It will be a relief. The protein skimmer is running, the problem I have is it is flowing well from my overflow and is flowing into the desperate tank with bio balls but the other two hoses that go into the other tank won't flow and it is also connected to the overflow.

I have no clue that's why I'm confused over here watched videos and everything can't figure it out. Even tho it is running right now

The white hose flows into separate bio filter tank and the other one with a valve flows into skimmer. The one with the valve is the one that is not getting any flow

I hope so but as of right now the skimmer is producing bubbles but no foam... Idk I'm just gonna let the tank run and keep trying to figure this out maybe go to a lfs and see what they can help me with all I have in the tank is sand and no light yet
