I know you said you didn’t t add anything to the tank, but have you dosed any additives to the tank? Sometimes they can make a skimmer go nuts!

No nothing

at all

Was an aerosol spray used around the the tank? Or possible that something was on your hands and you stuck your hands in the tank?

No not that I know of!
Hmmm... I figure if something died the skimmer would start foaming like crazy but it should stop after a while. Is it a new skimmer or did you do a deep cleaning of the skimmer? Build up of biofilm in the skimmer (if new or deep cleaned) takes time and the skimmer would settle down. These are the only suggestions I got.

I’ve had it for about 3 years and has been doing a great job last time I did a deep clean on it was about 3 months ago

Check and see if there is salt creep build-up in your airline tube or in the pump port where the skimmer airline is attached to, restricting airflow On my old skimmer, I had this happen and the lack of air increased the volume of water being pumped in to the skimmer, causing overflow.

I tried that if I put my finger over air intakes bubbles stop as soon as I Release bubbles come back and just overflows

Yes. The airline might not be fully blocked by salt creep. It may be that the there is enough blockage to cause more water flow but not complete blockage so that air goes through.

I took air hose off and ran hot water in it same with intake tubes when it first started thinking it was that also

Ic... well then I truly have no other suggestions. Hope you get it resolved!

Yup, I had to scrape out the build-up with a sharp tweezer in the airline, intake and venturi.

Thank you and I appreciate all your help if worse comes to worse what skimmer would you suggest

I've been out of the hobby for 11 years now. Had about 15 years experience prior to "retiring" .. Just starting my build so I cant give you a recommendation based on experience. From my research, I went with Reef Octopur Regal 250 INT for my RSR 900XXXL. Seems Reef Octo brand is solid and there wasnt too many complaints in the forum. Also, it runs on the Varios-6 DC controllable pump so it should be very quiet and tunable.

Tunze 9410 DC.
Turn it on and it just plain skims. Anti overflow, easiest cup to clean, you dont even have to turn off the skimmer.
Work in the tank, mount corals, feed, and it just keeps on working.
Take out deep clean return to sump turn it on and it skims.
They are the most under rated skimmers on the market imo.
The only set and forget skimmer imo.

I’ll look into it
