Got a hang on skimmer. I'd like to upgrade my tank with a sump but not sure when that might happen. Wondering if this would be possible in the meantime.

I'm running a tunze 9004 now and like to upgrade that. For my tank size (40 gal) I don't want a big honking external skimmer.

If you get internal skimmer those are big as well and will take up real-estate. Why don't you look at an hob overflow.

Some have advised against it but if anyone has good experience going this way I'd appreciate it.

It makes no sense if you value space in your display, get a decent hob and save the internal skimmer for when you do have a sump.

There's been plenty on here that have. A hob skimmer isn't too bad. Reef octopus makes really good ones
