That’s opposite any venturi skimmer I ever had

Maybe I know when the collection container is full the ball causes air to exhaust causing the water level in the skimmer to drop .
Maybe I’m describing it wrong

One of my My first tanks was a 75 gal with a canister filter and hang on coralife 125 hang on skimmer .
worked great until that one day I went away and it overflowed pumping 8” of the water from the tank onto the floor .
good thing , it was only a 75 gal
Bad thing . I was in a upstairs apartment and the lady living below me wasn’t happy with all the salty fish water

Skimmers need adjustment along the way. Different things added to the tank will change the way it operates. I've ran a HoB for a couple years and only had a couple minor messes along the way.

Not sure what happened .
it was Christmas Eve , I went to a family dinner
I got a call from my landlord asking if I left water running cause it was coming rough the ceilings like a water fall .

he didn’t know I had a aquarium lol
It was notorious for running great and all of a sudden something would happen causing it to go crazy .

Mine foams different depending on anything that enters the water. Whether it's food, nopox, or even my hands will change skimmer operation. Maybe you had a gross spider fall in.

Who knows ....
that skimmer caused a lot of damage .
lesson #2 never put a aquarium on brand new hardwood flooring .
