I have a 40 gal tank and need to upgrade my hang on skimmer. As much as I'd love a sump is it possible to put a shelf / stand etc in my aquarium at the proper level to accommodate an "in sump skimmer?" Probably a stupid question but just asking.

You could. Would be the first I’ve seen. But it would work I guess but it wouldn’t look nice and if it falls over, that could be a mess.

It would definitely need to be secured in such a way of it working.
