Protein skimmers

I have a hexagonal aquarium and the glass lid covers most of the tank. I want to add a protein skimmer but there is no room to hang a traditional one. There is just enough space on one side for my penguin biowheel, barely. Does anyone know of any protein skimmer designs where I would just need a tube to go into the water and then the protein skimmer could sit on the table next to the tank, or under the tank?

Is the tank drilled? If not, you need a HOB skimmer. Skimmer would need to be at tank water height, otherwise you will get overflow. Same problem for a buddy of mine. We ended up attaching a skimmer through the wall to the otherside.

Any external skimmer can go to the side and slightly above the tank.

Not sure of your tank size but there are some skimmers that can sit in the display and hang off the tank wall.
