I agree, but it's also good not to overthink a skimmer...it's a glorified air-stone container that strategically gathers the waste that's naturally generated when bubbles and dirty saltwater get together.
So the skimmer you're looking at will work....the question is about that strategic part that I mentioned. How well does it do at gathering the dirt in a way that makes it easy for you to remove from the system.
Skimmers are more or less easy to use....that might be the most important factor in the long run. I can't remember how much those MRC skimmers cost, but I remember all those thumb screws and dozens of parts that would need disassembly and cleaning!!! The quality of the pump is the second question....most should be good, some might be better.
If you can find a used skimmer, that might be a way to get one you'd prefer to the one you're looking at for a lower price than you've considered. Check your local freecycle, pet stores, cragslist, Reef2Reef's for sale section, et al.
An AquaC Remora is a classic hang-on skimmer that you should be able to get for <$100 with a little patience....maybe around $100 if it comes with the pump. (AquaC's don't require a special pump since the skimmer does the bubble generation. I like em!)
