Sup guys…don’t know if this is a dumb question or what…but what are the cons and pros of a skimmer the pulls from the Surface of water vs a skimmer that sits 8 inches under the water? Would either be more efficient?

Most skimmers are made to suck water and then mix it with air. If you pull from the surface you will add extra air which might not be a good thing.

That’s confused me, extra air is what skimmers are about. I’m tryin just a skimmer pump churning the hell out of a section of the sump. From what I gather all the organics can be becterialised in tank (I’ve previously witnessed this), no skimmer cup cleaning for me for a while, lol. Aeration is my weapon of choice.

Since your not using a skimmer, this is a bit different than what I imagined. Yes churn it a lot with air. New septic tanks use an air pump to churn the water in 1 tank to help with bacteria growth and waste breakdown.

A skimmer will be most efficient in a tank with higher flow compared to lower flow.

If there is no flow/low flow, then it doesnt matter if the intake is high or low, the organics are not circulating in the water and might never reach the skimmer. Higher flow means the organics are circulating and have a better chance of getting into the skimmer.
