Pruning Mermaid Fan in DT

I had a shipment from Florida to Michigan in winter. The macro didn't seem to do so well. But I just left it planted in my rocks. I have new growth from the base that is growing quickly and looks very healthy. My question is if I should cut the old down or will it stunt the new growth. This is in a very small tank. On a side note adding some red ogo to a rear chamber of the AIO for a refugium with Pods.

I'm really not sure at all about the way this grows. If I was you, I'd wait until the new growth got bigger before I'd trim it back.
