Hey all,
AB039EB2-D7C1-49D4-B591-2405418464D1.jpeg

Just bought this Jewel Puffer and orange starfish today and I just wanted to make sure I’m not making a huge mistake, they have both been in my tank now for about 6 hours and seem perfectly fine.

Is my tank too small for Jewel puffa? I mean 30 gallons is 110 litres it’s not a huge amount.

Sorry if it seems like a daft question.

Thanks :)

Welcome to reef2reef! Glad you joined!

The tank is a bit small for that toby puffer species, which is usually listed at 50/55 gallon minimum tank size. A better choice for that size tank would be a valentini toby puffer. The leopard toby is another choice that is harder to find but also perhaps the least likely to eat corals. See both here: https://www.liveaquaria.com/category/39/puffers?c=15+39&r=3122&s=ts&start=1&page_num=1&count=24

All puffers can eat corals, so you may find your new pet munching on the zoas.

How long has the tank been up? Sea stars can starve in tanks that don't have an established biofilm on the rocks to eat. But I am no expert on sea stars.
