I want to liven up my 33 long which has some softies and a Valentini puffer. I'm considering the blue tang pictured below.

Compatibility charts show it as compatible with the Valentini puffer, but is a 33 long large enough? Is it recommended in a reef tank?

Alternate stocking suggestions if not this?

I want to keep the tank stocked non-aggressive.

Thanks,
Dom

You might be able to get away with a smaller bristltooth tang. A tomini, yellow or blue eye kole, or maybe a carribean blue for a while. But a hippo is too big. They can reach 12 inches. I've heard of them growing for a while in a 75 then moving to a bigger tank. They really should be in a 6ft tank that's at least 18 inches deep.

I’ve got a Regal Tang and I’ve had him from about 1 inch in size and in 2 years he’s now about 6 inches at least, they grow at a phenomenal rate.

They are also ‘very’ active swimmers and I’ve got about 180 gallons and that’s really just about big enough for their constant swimming.

I have a full blown reef and the Regal Tang took a liking for Zoa colonies and decided to eat them all!

You might be ok when very small but would need a bigger tank or new home for him quiet quickly.
