puffer in a 55 gallon tank

im upgrading to a 55 gallon tank. my wife wants to get a puffer. would a puffer be a good fit in a smaller tank? there is 60 lbs of live rock, ill be moving my 6 line wrasse, 3 skunk shrimp,emerald crab and 30 or so snails in the tank in about a month. there will be alot of softies moving as well. thanks for any advise you can give!

A 55 gallon tank should be big enough for a puffer for a little while

Also depends on whAt kind of size puffer

Stick with species in the genus Canthigaster, others will grow too large and eat your shrimp.

Try a smaller puffer like valentini puffer.
Remember that they need to sharpen thier beak on coral or shells.
