I've read and read on this site, the pros and cons relating to Pukani. I'm sure I'm probably suffering from some kind of newbie syndrome, refusing to see the obvious answer, but, I have a question: if it's a brand new set-up, and I know I'm looking at months before I have a mature enough tank for SPS, isn't an excess of phosphates okay for a while? I mean when cycling a new tank there's going to be hair algae anyway, right? I really like the looks and size:weight ratio. Some say it's a "trade off", others say "never again". I need to commit to something, and am torn. Cooking the rock will be a challenge, and does not appear to yield consistent result. Help!

I love the look of the Pukani and the custom look you can get out of it with a dremel and a little creativity. I am currently working on a 150g build and I ordered about 80lbs of it from BRS. When it came in the mail I realized they actually sent me 106lbs of really nice sized pieces for me to work with. IMO the aqua-scape possibilities are worth it. I have tons a patience and its all the same to me to let the tank sit until the rock is fully cooked before adding anything to it.

Has anyone actually positively identified the Dry Pukani as the source of their PO4? Personally I thinks it's hear say & rumors. Gotta blame it on something ;)
I bought 35# of it from BRS a little over 2yrs ago. Cooked it in a bin for two weeks. Then cycled it in my tank for 4 weeks using SeaChem Stability.
Til this day I've never had a PO4 reading above .02 I will never buy any other rock! Especially Live Rock.
Just to let you know...I've never had hair algae either!
Please excuse the shroom outbreak UGH!

I've been curing my Pukani since May and it's just now stable enough for sps. I just set it up and let it be nasty for a while. No fish, no corals, no water changes and algae/cyano was everywhere. It's all gone now but Pukani does take some time to mature. Worth it in the end though.

I committed and bought the Pukani on Friday - 80lbs from my 150. I plan to put it directly in the tank and then fill with SW. I'm following you guys!

i purchased mine live and direct shipped. still took about 3 weeks to get rid of the die off but never had a problem. I ordered 250 pounds. love it ! ill never go to anything else

I was just checking it out rapture. Very nice. You say you bought it live, not dry? Who sells live Pukani? Congrats on the sump btw. :-)
