Hi all..

I'm just wondering if anyone has seen or made a pull out sump.. I'm wanting to do a big alage bed under the tank.. The tank will be 1500mm wide so there is no way I'll reach the back to pull the alage out.. But I'm wondering if I can utt he sump out on some kind of slides

I have never made a pull-out sump, but I have seen them on a few tanks. Hopefully, one of those people can reply to your post; just a thought, have you tried to use the search button on the top right of the banner? Usually helps. Also, try using the threads' forums section and look for DIY.

Yea nothing from the search button.. Found couple of YouTube videos but no detail

Suppose it's not the normal thing

Would probably be possible, but a massive pain in the backside. any pipework is going to have to have additional slack to cope with being moved, the runners would need to be buttery smooth so as not to slosh the water about too much when you do move it, not to mention that even a modest sized sump is going to weigh at least 40kg when full.

I'd maybe write this one off as a bad job :)

Yes I'm thinking it be more like 200kg lol

You could be right I guess might have to get. My fat butt under the stand

Before I got into reefing myself I helped my son build a tank, think it was a 2’ cube, drilled with a return and closed loop. We built a stand for it and I suggested placing the sump on a plywood base fitted with metal drawer slides to allow him to pull it out for maintenance (only about a 20k sump from memory). Initially it worked well. Not being into reefs myself then I didn’t think about salt, so after 6 months it started to rust and within a year the drawer slides were rusted solid.

So if you do try this, as well as fitting something that can take the weight, make sure it is rustproof.
