I have a colony of zoanthids mounted on live rock on a 1in frag plug. It has about 20 polyps and they extend beyond the frag plug about a half inch in every direction.

Now I'm wanting to pull it out of the tank to remove a vermetid snail and to give it a dip and then replace it.

My question is when I go to pull it out of the tank will the polyps be stuck to the live rock or will they lift out freely in a mat? I've never done this before. If they are going to be stuck to the live rock I won't be able to pull it out. Any suggestions?

You might be able to peel them off but they are probably going to stay stuck on the rock.

Hi it depends it’s a hit or miss depending how they strongly they attached . Thx

It will be stuck to the live rock. if you have dremel or similar tool with a diamond blade, you can cut just slightly under the zoas and remount them later. You can also use the dremel to completely remove the vermetid snail. I do this to my rocks sometimes.

BTW, a dremel with a diamond blade is very useful when you have a reef tank.

I appreciate the advice. I'm afraid I would have to almost completely drain the tank to keep the Dremel dry.
