Pulsing Xenia and GSP Dying or Acclimating?

Hello,

I recently got 4 corals (GSP, Xenia, Zoa, and Micromussa) in the mail (shipped out yesterday).

They were already warm, but we put the bag in the tank to match temps. Afterwards we dipped them then glued them into the tank. The Zoa opened up after 30 mins and the Micromussa looks fine, but the GSP seems scrunched up and the Xenia looks like it’s withering away (though I will still see its ends pulse occasionally). I just want to make sure they’re ok or see if there’s any emergency measures I can take. Thanks in advance!

It’s difficult to analyze under blue light. White light is best for inspection. There is not much you can do except to provide stable parameters. Unless GSP was dying before you put it in the tank, I would not worry. Give it a week.

Thanks for the response! Copy on the GSP, hopefully he comes out after a few days. As for the Xenia, he seems to be either the same or slightly worse since yesterday. I caught a vid and a pic using the flash from my phone so hopefully that helps give you an idea with better lighting. When we tested today our ph was at 7.8 (though this is the lowest we see, usually if hovers between this and 8.2) and our alk was 11.3. We last measured calcium on the 12th and it was at 401 ppm. On the 13th we checked for ammonia and nitrate (0 and ~5, respectively). The first three tests were with Hanna testers and the last two were with a Fluval test kit. Current temp is 76.3. These parameters seem tolerable, though alk is a bit high and the ph trough is. Any insight you have would be much appreciated!

Your parameters are fine. pH fluctuation of 7.8 to 8,2 are normal between lights on & off. While not normally tested, iodine is a minor nutrient required by Xenia. Aside from that, provide stability.

I'm convinced xenia will be the last living thing on the planet eventually adapting and out competing roaches..lol Sorry I don't have anything to add here. I do know this though. Once it adapts within a year it will be growing on everything.

I hav no experience with Xenia but I know GSP is finicky especially in a new environment. Water can be perfect and then one day all of a sudden it’ll be closed. And it seems that the entire colony communicates because when I clean a section of my GSP wall the entire colony will be upset and close for 24-48 hrs.
