i jus put in a piece of rock that had 2 little stalks on it.. Taking it out of the box it had been squashed.. A day later it's still leaned over but now looks like smoke coming off of it in the water?? Is it dieing?? Should I remove it out of my water?? Jus checked my levels and everything is zero, ph is 8.0,mag at 1380, alk at 13.4 and cal at 460 .... Any ideas, need ur help ppl!!

gotta sump or fuge? I have had to rehab mine in the sump with lower flow and ugly light low till it was healthy enough for the display.(weird right?)
IME when a xenia gets rough handled, or hen ya frag it the stuff comes off. Its pretty resilient, to the point of being a pest.

Yes I have a ref, BUT the rock also has a colony of zoa's and a smaller colony of like 6-8 polyps as well and I kinda didn't wanna put those in there Caz I have a rogue red emerald crab that like to eat polpys.. Smh.. Lol Can I jus leave them there looking ugly till they come bak.. I don't have crazy flow on it..?? I'm jus worried about that smokey/melting look that's comin of a real slightly?? Is that gonna contaminate my tank??

Cool. A murder crab. had those. DTs fine.
One mans dead coral is another crabs dinner. Itll be fine. If its really dead the DT crabs will tell ya. By eating it.
skimmer filters will take care of the rest. if they were big stalks maybe ditch em if its was a small tank.
regular acclimation method. bottom of the tank slowish flow.
Nature aint pretty some days.

Ok kool.. So im gonna leave it where it is and see if the crabs start to eat it.. And in a week if it doesn't get better I'm guessing I jus cut it off at the base of the stalk with a razor..?

Yup. Might be there in the morning, might not. Crabs have a knack it seems.
Till they go bad.

And in the week youll know if the zoas like the spot too.

I had some xenia pop up near one of my sps. I took a toothbrush to it until there was nothing left that I could see. Two weeks later, they are back! If you managed to kill a xenia, I am impressed ;)

WOW no way!! Lol That's crazy, maybe I should be happy if it doesn't make it.. Lol I'll jus give it time, if not I'll cut him and see if he grows back.. Lol

Well they came out of a tank with my same lights at a higher percentage and higher in his tank, so their open and seem to be happy.. We shall see!! Thanks

I had a big coral head I populated with them. They grow like crazy and can become invasive. They take a lot of nutrients from the water column. I finally removed mine and my sps has definitely perked up.

Your alk being 13.4 is kinda high, especially for a soft coral like xenia. They also rarely do well in a tank where everything is zero. They prefer "dirty water". Mine grew out of control only once my nitrates when north of 40. ;) Had to finally break down the tank to get rid of it all.
