The xenia on the left is mine, which is doing fine. But the one on the right is my friend's xenia from his 50g tank. He did a 1/3 water change and the xenia shrinks and turns blackish? So it is temporary sitting in my tank now. What is wrong with it and how to cure it?

Probably something with the water he used. Tap water maybe? Contaminants? Wrong salinity? Endless possibilities.

Assuming your water is ok, Xenia is almost indestructible. Give it overnight at least, maybe 2 days to start to perk up.

He used tap water and I think 1/3 is way too much. When he did water change, he added salt directly into the tank. Good thing it is not melted yet, it has been sitting in my tank for a day. Hopefully it will be fine. Thank you.

Good to hear that! Thank you

Your friend may not be a good choice for a tank sitter if ever you travel...
Lol i know that since the beginning. He is learning so am I. But I have more passion than he does and he's a bit lazy.
