For the last couple of months, when I shut down my Reeflo Hammerhead Gold pumps (to change filter socks), one of them fails to start back up again. I have two identical pumps purchased new at the same time. One of them is fine, the other has this issue. Sometimes it comes back on after a few minutes but each time this happens it takes longer and longer. This morning I thought it was never going to come back on but it finally did. I put a fan on it thinking maybe it was a heat problem but not sure that really was the issue.

Any thoughts, suggestions, similar experiences?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you checked to see if you can spin the impeller with your finger?? If not or if it is stiff or dragging, the bearings in the motor could be on their way out. This will lead to extra heat on the ends of the motor that could eventuality damage the seal as well. Also check your connections in the connection head are all secure.

Might need to replace the bearings. It's considered normal maintenance and should be done periodically. If you replace one, might as well replace the other.
