It will be external..volume of the reactor is around 22 liters

So about 5 gallons. Then it shouldn't need a very big pump and it should be fairly inexpensive.

I would get a Jebao DC pump maybe something like a 6000 model, you can go up or down on the volume.

It's a reactor around 9 inch diameter

Is there a window to see inside the reactor while it is working? I have been using an ehiem pump on my reactor because I needed more power, the Eheim 1250 is working great. So another option will be a Eheim 1260 for your setup, one big problem I had was finding tubing that match the reactors and the pump, your reactor seems to match ehiem tubing size better than a DC pump that would be to big and then you will have to reduce the tubing.
