I just went to restart my tank after a few years out of the hobby and my protein skimmer pump isn’t pushing water. It’s an AQ 2000s. It hums but won’t actually push any water. Anyone got any ideas on if I can fix it or am I just better off buying a new one.

Can you take the pump apart and clean it? Soak it in some citric acid.

It hums we inch mean that the power block has power. It's likely just dirty. However if its bound up from stuff expanding, then it's not repairable.

Smack the pump on the side with your palm. Once in a while after I cleaned my pump and I hear that happened i smack it and it ALWAYS works back to normal. I know, barberic but it worked for me.

Clean magnet and cavity for magnet and carefully push the little plastic blades
It should take off

Awesome. I’ll give all of these a go. I tried doing a quick little cleaning on it and that’s didn’t seem to do much. I’ll take it apart and give a good soaking though.

Sometimes the impellers can swell or crack from sitting. Take the volute off and see what is going on.
