Good Evening

My plan at this moment is to use my freshwater 40B tank and AC110 HOB Filter and convert to a FOWLR at the moment and maybe a reef later after I get a good understanding of Saltwater fish vs freshwater. I was planning running my AC110 at full capacity with a sponge, biorings and maybe another common saltwater medium depending on more research and need. The AC110 turns over my tank according to their claims 12.5 times per hour. So that's 500 gallons an hour on it's own allegedly. With that being said I figured I would place my HOB on the left and a power head on the right. I'm wondering to start if this would be enough flow depending on the size power head and brand. Any info will be great appreciated and we'll recieved.

Thanks

The new guy.

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef!! :)

I'd think it would be plenty of flow.

Great decision to go FOWLR and get the hang of that first, before you move into an full blown reef.

So what gph should I aim for with the power head?

Well,
We used to turn over 10 x's an hour on the filtration system and looks like you got that covered.

I'd start off with what you got, then you can size up to the power head that you need.

When you move over to an reef, the Aquaclear may need to go, or modded, but it's fine for an fish only tank.

I don't know if this tank will ever be a coral tank . I'm leaning towards adding a second tank that's plumbed for a sump.

Yep your plan should be fine. Be sure to start with some good live rock and stock with reef safe fish and inverts. Moving to corals will be easy once you get going.

I'm looking two go with a pair of clowns and a sand sifting something. That's about all I have for a wish list at this time. Maybe a Damsil later.

I picked up one powerhead and plan on adding a second. We are moving and packing up our house so at this time I'm still just adding the pieces and will start a cycle once I have the tank in it's new home in a couple weeks. I'm starting a cycle without a Skimmer as I won't have fish producing waste so that will give me time to save for a good skimmer. It's coming a long nicely.
