Pump running hot?

So I bought some used equipment when I got my tank and this pump I have running is about 120 degrees when I get the temp. This seems a bit excessive. Anyone have pumps that run that hot or should I be concerned and just replace?

I had a similar issue with a used external return pump. I'm no expert, but a few thoughts:

1) Some of these external pumps require lubrication now and then. An old one may very well not have had the proper maintenance done to it in a while.

2) It looks like you have it in a fairly enclosed place? I think they need a little more air movement to stay cool.

I have mine in the stand, and quickly switched to an in-sump pump.

Thanks yah. It’s pretty old. Maybe I can take it apart and see what I can do with it. I do have 20 long I should build as the sump instead, just need to insert some baffles.

Yah it’s under my cabinet but pretty big space and lots of holes behind in the cabinet. Not really worried about that space getting hot. Ambient air is like 72 degrees.

Most external pump do run hort but 120 seems a little too hot. I would look at the bearings which generate a larhe amount of heat/friction

I used to have one of those pumps, I used to run a small fan on it. The pump can run dry if I remember correctly.
