Pump suggestions please

I currently have a Nac 7 cone Bubble Magus skimmer on my 70 gallon cube. The skimmer does really well and pulls a good amount of gunk. The issue that I'm having with the skimmer is the hum from the pump. I would love to swap out the pump for a quieter model if possible. The skimmer has the factory pump (Atman 2500) which sits inside of the body of the skimmer. The pump is held into place by a rail system with in the intake going through the body. Has any one swapped out pumps on one of these skimmers? Is there a better aftermarket pump that will fit inside of the body. Something like a bubble blaster. I'm just looking to have a silent tank, and the hum is driving me insane.

The way you describe it sounds very similar to a Reef Octopus SSS model which I run. It has a Bubble Blaster 3000 inside of it with the intake going through the bottom of the body.

I for one love the bubble blaster pumps...so much so that I bought the water blaster as a return pump and couldn't be happier with it.

That is exactly what I was wanting to do. I'm just wondering if it is better to replace the entire skimmer, or just the pump. The skimmer itself works extremely well. I just want it quieter.

Well the Bubble Blaster 3000 runs around $200, and a 1000 goes for $150. $200 gets you well on your way towards a brand new skimmer.

Depends on if you want to risk spending the money, shipping it, and having to send it back if it doesn't fit right. If you love the skimmer now it may not perform that same way with a different pump...or it might perform better.

is this the skimmer?

if so changing the pump may need modification because its internal.. have you tried taking it apart and cleaning?
